The Kimekai Leadership Team program has been designed for students who are interested in leadership in martial arts. The Leadership Team program will assist in developing and strengthening leadership skills through participation in learning experiences and practical training with in the Kimekai community.
The Leadership Program builds self confidence of the Team member; with each member receiving training for specific leadership responsibilities and follow up evaluations to improve their skills and nurture their leadership characteristics.
The Team member will assist Instructors during the course of the training sessions and in some cases provide guidance to the younger students.
This package includes the following:
- Application for the Leadership Team;
- Code of Ethics;
- Leadership Structure;
- Leadership Uniform policy;
- Benefits available to Leadership Members; and
- A copy of the Leadership Team Member attendance card.
Introduction
The following information outlines the various Leadership Levels with in the Kimekai Karate structure. Team members should not expect an automatic progression to the next Leadership level just because they have completed the minimum requirements of their current level.
The Chief and Senior Instructor must be satisfied that each Team member has the necessary maturity, skills and experience to assist and contribute at the higher Leadership level, before they will be promoted to that level.
Probationary Leader
Students whose application is approved must complete a probationary period of 30 days (a minimum of 2 hours per week) in order to become and official member of the Leadership Team.
- Must a hold a minimum rank of Young Samurai Blue Belt;
- Must be at least 10 years of Age;
- Must be Punctual and Reliable;
- Be a Role Model to more junior students;
- Duties during assisting hours include:
- keep the viewing area neat and tidy;
- ensure changing room are in order
- assist in class
Assistant Leader (Level 1) – Badge/L1 Certificate:
Students must complete the probationary period and be recommended by a senior instructor to qualify for Assistant Leader.
- Must a hold a minimum rank of Young Samurai Blue Belt;
- Must be at least 10 years of Age;
- Duties during assisting hours include:
- keep the training area neat and tidy;
- ensure all students have placed their card in the ‘training today’ box
- assist in class;
- Must attend when rostered and if available more if requested by the Senior Instructor; and
- Wear the uniform as per Policy.
Leader (Level 2) – Black Pants/L2 Certificate:
A student who holds the rank of Level 1 must complete a minimum of 50 classes as a Level 1 to qualify for Level 2 Leader.
- Must hold a minimum rank of Young Samurai Brown Belt;
- Must be at least 10 years of age;
- Duties during assisting hours include:
- keep the training area neat;
- provide additional assistance to students during class; and
- assist in class;
- Must attend when rostered and if available more if requested by the Senior Instructor; and
- Wear the uniform as per Policy.
Group Leader (Level 3): Black Jacket/Certificate
A student who holds the rank of Level 2 must complete a minimum of 50 classes as Level 2 to qualify for Level 3 Group Leader.
- Must hold a minimum rank of Young Samurai 1st Kyu Brown Belt;
- Must be at least 12 years of age;
- Duties during assisting hours can include:
- dating all tracking cards and separating the cards according to their skill stripe levels;
- recommend and test students for stripes;
- spotting students who need individual attention and assign a Leadership Team member to work with them individually during class;
- marking the cards for skill stripes;
- lead the class in stretches, basic exercises, games, and basic activities; and
- lead a group during group activities;
- Must assist a minimum of 4 classes per week and if available more if requested by the Senior Instructor; and
- Wear the uniform as per Policy.
Assistant Instructor (Level 4): Black Uniform/L4 Certificate
A student who holds the rank of Level 3 Group Leader must complete a minimum of 100 classes as a Level 3 to qualify for Level 4 Assistant Instructor level
- Must hold a minimum rank of Black Belt;
- Must be a minimum of 16 years of age;
- Must complete a level 1 Coaching Course (or equivalent);
- Must instruct a minimum of 2 classes per week;
- Must assist a minimum of 2 classes per week and if available more if requested by the Senior Instructor; and
- Wear the uniform as per Policy.
Instructor (Level 5): Black Uniform/L5 Certificate
A student who holds the rank of Level 4 Assistant Instructor must complete a minimum of 100 classes as a Level 4 to qualify for Level 5 Instructor level
- Must hold a minimum rank of 1st Dan Black Belt;
- Must be a minimum of 18 years of age;
- Must complete a level 1 Coaching Course (or equivalent);
- Must instruct a minimum of 2 classes per week;
- Must assist a minimum of 2 classes per week and if available more if requested by the Senior Instructor; and
- Wear the uniform as per Policy.
Leadership Uniform Policy
The correct Leadership Team Uniform must be worn at all times.
All members of the Leadership Team must wear their special Leadership uniform during their assisting role. The traditional white Karate Gi must be used during normal training. Leaders advancing to Level 2 and above will need to purchase a special black pants or full black uniform.
Level 1 – Assistant Leader
Leadership Team patch on a white Kimekai Karate jacket placed neatly on the upper side of the left sleeve, (same side as the Kimekai badge) with white Karate Pants.
Level 2 – Leader
Leadership Team patch on a white Kimekai Karate jacket placed neatly on the upper side of the left sleeve with black Karate pants.
Level 3 – Group Leader
Leadership Team patch on a black Kimekai Karate jacket placed neatly on the upper side of the left sleeve with white Karate pants.
Level 4 – Assistant Instructor
Leadership Team patch on a black Kimekai Karate Uniform .
Level 5 – Instructor
Black Kimekai Karate Uniform.
